If it's been years — or if the last visit didn't go well — we'd like to meet you before any treatment is discussed. No examination on day one unless you want it. Just a conversation, at your pace.
About our reviews: 2,000+ patient reviews published across our clinics, moderated only where required for legal or safety compliance. Individual experiences and treatment outcomes differ. Figures current at time of publication.
If the thought of a dental chair makes your stomach drop, you're not alone — and we've built the visit around that. Here's what you can expect from the moment you walk in.
Sleep dentistry (intravenous conscious sedation), administered in-clinic by a visiting specialist anaesthetist. Available at every My Implant Dentist metropolitan clinic. Suitability is individually assessed.
If you'd prefer a full general anaesthetic in a hospital day-surgery setting — or if you're at our Karratha clinic — we arrange that with a day-surgery partner. Available from any of our twelve clinics.
A partner, a parent, a friend, a sibling — whoever makes the door easier to walk through is welcome in the consultation room at every clinic.
After any sedation or hospital GA, you'll leave with written aftercare and a phone number to call that night if anything isn't right. At every clinic.
Sedation and hospital GA require a sober adult to take you home. We plan that with you at the pre-assessment, not sprung on you on the day.
Every dentist at every My Implant Dentist clinic holds current AHPRA registration. The visiting specialist anaesthetist holds separate specialist registration.
Sleep dentistry (intravenous conscious sedation) means you're deeply relaxed for the appointment — many patients report little recall of the visit, though experiences vary. It's available at every My Implant Dentist metropolitan clinic, administered by a visiting specialist anaesthetist. If you'd prefer a full hospital general anaesthetic — or you're at our Karratha clinic — that can be arranged from any location.
Inhalation sedation, breathed through a small mask. Short-lived and wears off quickly. You stay awake and can hear everything — it just takes the edge off.
A tablet taken before the appointment — an oral relaxant that settles your nervous system before you walk in. More relaxed than happy gas, and you'll usually remember less of the visit. You'll need someone to drive you home.
Sleep dentistry (intravenous conscious sedation), administered in-clinic by a visiting specialist anaesthetist under continuous monitoring. You're deeply relaxed for the appointment; many patients report little recall afterwards, though experiences vary. Offered at every My Implant Dentist metro clinic.
Most anxious patients have their appointment at our clinic with sleep dentistry, and that's enough. But if you'd prefer a full general anaesthetic in a hospital day-surgery setting — or if the treatment planned is complex enough that your clinician recommends it — that's another option, arrangeable from any of our twelve clinics. You're admitted for the day, the treatment is done while you're under GA, and you go home when you've recovered.
Broadly similar whether you're having treatment in clinic or in hospital — the main differences are where you arrive and who's in the room. We'll give you a written day-of plan specific to your appointment.
A short appointment — in person or over the phone — to go through your medical history, medications, and what's planned. For hospital general anaesthetic, you'll also be reviewed by the anaesthetist beforehand.
You'll be asked to come in without food or drink for a set window beforehand, and you'll need an adult with you to take you home. For hospital admissions, this is the day-surgery reception.
Monitored throughout. In clinic, everything is explained as it happens — or not, if you'd rather not know. In hospital under general anaesthetic, you won't be aware of any of it.
A quiet recovery area, as long as you need before you leave. Written aftercare, and a number to call if anything comes up that night. Hospital recovery is supervised by nursing staff before discharge.
You don't have to commit to treatment — or even an examination — to come in. Choose the visit that feels like the smallest possible step.
Walk in, meet a dentist, see the space, ask anything. No chair. No instruments. No examination. Nothing to sign.
A short, extra-unhurried check — mirror only, no poking unless you invite it. We talk through what we see, you decide what, if anything, happens next.
If you already know you want to be asleep for any future treatment, we can start there. A clinician reviews your medical history and talks through the in-clinic and hospital options available to you.

Most anxious patients come to us with the same short list. Nothing on it is unusual, and none of it needs to happen in one visit.
The reset. A thorough clean, after a long time away or a recent one, depending on what you need.
For patients who haven't had a clean in a while and want to start from scratch. Often split across appointments.
Tooth-coloured, numbed, and paced. If it's been a while since your last filling, we'll walk you through every step before we begin.
When a tooth can't be saved, or shouldn't be. Local anaesthetic as standard. Sleep dentistry available in-house at every clinic, administered by a visiting specialist anaesthetist.
Replacing missing or removed teeth with a long-term option. A detailed assessment and written plan before anything is agreed.
For teeth that need more than a filling. Broken into shorter, spaced-out appointments where possible.
Full or partial, fitted carefully and adjusted until they feel right. No single rushed fitting.
Once you're comfortable and the essentials are looked after — if, and only if, you want to.
Each clinic has its own team, its own feel, and its own sedation options. Call ahead to ask what's available where you're going.
These are the concerns we hear from anxious patients, in their own words. If yours isn't here, ring us and we'll talk it through.
First, you won't be the first person to feel that way in our chair. We agree a stop signal before anything begins — usually raising a hand — and we stop immediately when you use it, no questions, no pressure to keep going.
You can pause for a minute, take a longer break, rinse and reset, or end the appointment entirely. Whatever feels right at the time. Ending an appointment early isn't a failure — it's information, and it helps us plan the next one better.
Nothing has to happen quickly. If there's a lot to do, we'll write down everything we've found, price each part separately, and let you decide what to tackle and when. Some patients do one thing, then come back six months later for the next. That's fine.
We'll always tell you what's urgent (if anything) and what can wait. You don't have to say yes to all of it — and you don't have to say yes on the day.
Sedation carries clinical considerations like any medical intervention, and suitability is individual. Before any sedation happens, a clinician reviews your medical history, medications, and the specific treatment planned. If we don't think a particular form of sedation is right for you, we'll say so, and talk through the alternatives.
Sedation is delivered to the current clinical standards required in Australia, with trained staff and monitoring throughout. We're happy to answer specific questions about the process, risks, and recovery at your pre-assessment.
Yes. Sleep dentistry (intravenous conscious sedation) — where you're deeply relaxed for the appointment and many patients report little recall afterwards — is available in-house at every My Implant Dentist metropolitan clinic. It's administered by a specialist anaesthetist who visits the clinic, with continuous monitoring throughout. You'll need someone to take you home afterwards.
If you'd prefer a full general anaesthetic in a hospital day-surgery setting — or if you're at our Karratha clinic, or if the treatment planned is complex enough that your clinician recommends it — that's another option, arrangeable from any of our twelve clinics.
Either way, suitability is individually assessed. Your medical history, medications, and the specific treatment planned all need to be reviewed before we proceed, and we'll be upfront if one option isn't the right fit for you.
Yes. Bring a partner, a parent, a friend, a sibling — whoever makes the door easier to walk through. They're welcome in the consultation room, and for many treatments, they can stay with you throughout.
If you're being sedated, you'll need an adult to drive you home and stay with you afterwards — so plan that in from the start.
Absolutely. You're never locked in. If a procedure has already started and stopping partway would leave something unsafe, we'll explain exactly what we need to do to make it safe to end — and then we'll end it. If nothing's been started, you can simply stand up and go. We'll rebook when you're ready, or not at all. Your choice.
That's one of the most common stories we hear — and it's why the first visit is a conversation, not an examination. There's nothing to cancel out of in any meaningful sense: no chair, no plan, no treatment on the books. Just a meeting. Many patients find it's the part that was actually holding them back.
If you do need to cancel, you can. We'd rather you come in a month later, ready, than force the day and not come back.
The introductory chat is a short consultation. Any treatment afterwards is quoted in writing before it begins — you'll know the full cost before you agree to anything. We're a preferred provider for most major health funds, and we offer payment plans. See the next section for details.
Cost shouldn't be the thing that stops you, and it shouldn't be a surprise. Here's how we try to make the numbers easier.
Preferred-provider agreements with the above funds are in place at many of our clinics. We'll confirm coverage for your chosen clinic when you call, and check your fund's benefits for you before any work begins.
No examination, no treatment, no commitment to proceed with anything we talk about. If you leave and decide it isn't for you, that's a good outcome too — you'll know.
